October 1, 2001... As the United States and Britian begin military attacks
against Afghanistan, many people find the weather in that area of interest. Because of the harsh weather in the
Afghanistan mountains, military operations there can be very difficult. Below are some resources on Afghanistan
weather.

"In the Afghan mountains, where Osama bin laden and his gang may
be hiding, military meteorologists will have their work cut out for them. Mountain meteorology can be tricky: The
gnarled terrain plays maliciously with moist air masses as they lumber up and down the slopes. Hence, mountain weather
conditions may change in a moment. Surprise blizzards can entomb troops and transport vehicles -- be they trucks or
donkeys. Sudden wind shear might flick a helicopter to the ground like a gnat. Unexpected fogs can blind aircraft
pilots, fatally diverting them into peaks." --
