![]() The National Weather Service constantly outputs statements on record weather events, or "RER / Record Event Reports", which are tied or broken in the United States. Through WeatherMatirx, Internet users have access to a summary report issued each morning. We used to send the daily reports through the StormReports email list, before that list was discontinued. The latest summaries are shown below. More extreme weather information is avialable on our Extreme Weather page.
* = Disclaimers for statistics: Numbers are approximate due to random NWS formatting, random retransmission, corrections, and data delivery formats. Total may not equal parts due to multiple locations in one record report or improper formatting which causes records to not be extracted. Breakdown of record type only available after 8/22/2004. These totals are only available since 3/1/2003. A More Accurate, But Less Available Source: Guy Walton at the Weather Channel maintains a more manual, scientific total number of records per year, and probably per day and month (reference). He does not make this information public on a routine basis (other than the yearly 2000-2005 records he published in WeatherWise Magazine) and he is not reachable over the Internet. WeatherMatrix also provides an archive of U.S. Weather Records for the current month and has the information for 2003 available on CD-ROM. The links shown above include the time, date, location and type of record broken. To see specific values of records broken, consult our monthly archive see the Recent Record Values section below. To recieve weather bulletins individually to your e-mail enabled product visit: http://www.wxwarn1.com If you are a WeatherMatrix Member, give your name as a WeatherMatrix Member to receive a discount. RECORD WEBSITES The THREADEX Long-Term Record Extremes website will show you the top 3 all-time record highs, lows or rainfall for all official climate stations for each day of the year, in text format. Other sources of Weather Records include the Oregon Climate Service (5 Days), Ohio State (5 Days) and the National Weather Service (most recent record only by state and city). RECORD RECORDS! Since WeatherMatrix has been keeping track of the number of daily records (March 2003), several days have stood out with large numbers of records (days with over 70 reports shown):
