Records from Thursday:
-Birmingham, Ala., reported the 13th consecutive day in which the
temperature dropped below 25 degrees, setting a new record for the
longest cold streak in the region.
-Tuscaloosa, Ala., has recorded 12 consecutive days with a low
temperature below 25 degrees, which set a new record. The previous
record was 10 days, set in February 1958.
-Tallahassee, Fla., tied the record for consecutive days of
subfreezing temperatures at 13. The record was set in 1966 from Jan.
27 to Feb. 8.
-This year was also the coldest start to a new year for Tallahassee,
Fla. The average temperature through the first 13 days of the month
was 36.0 degrees. That is 15.7 degrees below normal. The previous
coldest start to a new year was set back in 1970 when the first 13
days had an average temperature of 38.6 degrees.
