Automated Weather Notification System This page is a tribute to the AWNS (Automated Weather Notification System) done by Joe Morris at UNC. This groundbreaking service began delivering weather advisories via email in 1996 and was discontinued June 29, 2004. WeatherMatrix archived the East Coast advisories from this list for nearly 6 years (most of this is available on CD, see our archive section). We will eventually find another way to archive the advisories... for now we have U.S. severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings archived, and we have a general-use list of current advisories which should be up to date. Services like these are a dime a dozen these days. WeatherMatrix Member John Jensen runs a subscription service, as does StormNow and Weather.com. AccuWeather.com, Weather.com, and EEN also give the alerts away for free. -Jesse Ferrell, Founder, WeatherMatrix |
