"Mammatus Over UNCA"

(Click for High-Resolution Picture)

Science Building
UNC-Asheville
Asheville, NC

1993

This picture was taken literally from the roof of the Science Building on UNCA Campus one evening. After seeing the VIP-6 storm approaching on radar (I've got a picture of the radar screen somewhere, I'll post it here when I find it), myself and a bunch of the other meteorology majors climbed out the window to the roof to view the storm roll in. This is what we got: beautiful Mm clouds, a rare sight for the mountainous area of Asheville. One of the other pictures in this set, the "Mammatus, Anvil, Flanking Tower" photo, was taken at the same time. I can only estimate the year to be 1992, 1993, or 1994 until I find some of the other photos.
