"Double Rainbow"

I-26

Hendersonville, NC

August 1994

This picture was taken from Interstate 26 south of Asheville in Hendersonville, NC. If you look closely in the upper left you will see the second rainbow. Rainbows are tricky to film, and this was the first one I had tried to photograph as I recall. It was a complete 180-degree double rainbow. I have some pictures that I taped together showing the whole thing; I'll post them here when I find them. The story behind this picture is that the only reason I was on the Interstate was because I was chasing a severe thunderstorm that had just dropped some funnel clouds a few miles from there. After I went a little farther south, and the rainbow dissapeared, the sky and light became a creepy deep pinkish purple - yellow, a color that wouldn't show up well on film but was indicative of the severe weather in the area.
