MEMBER BENEFITS: WeatherMatrix "StormReports" Email List

The WeatherMatrix StormReports List is Email List is a Private list available exclusively to WeatherMatrix Members. It should be used for reports and discussion of Current Weather Events.

"Digest" support, where you would be sent a summary of 1 day's worth of postings, is now available.

Postings to the StormReports list are now echoed to the WeatherMatrix Website occasionally throughout the day to give the public up-to-date storm reports. Email addresses have the "@" changed to "{at}" so that spammers cannot pick up your email address from the site. If you still have a problem with your email address appearing on the site with the "{at}", email lists @ weathermatrix.net and we'll see what we can do.

To see other benefits of WeatherMatrix, or to Join WeatherMatrix For FREE, visit our Membership area.

A sampling of past postings include:

 o [STORMREPORTS] Utah Tornado Photos

Additionally, some Posting Guidlines are below. Keeping these in mind will make for a better and more productive StormReports list for all of us.

  • If you reply it goes to the list! Your replies will go directly to the StormReports list! If you want to contact the person who sent the email personally you will have to email them directly based on the email address inside the message.
  • Please make your SUBJECT: lines meaningful! Many people on the StormReports list receive hundreds of emails per day; they want to know what the message is about before they read it, or people will start ignoring the postings entirely. Additionally, people in WeatherMatrix are from all over the world and need to know what geographical area you are talking about before they read the message. If you do not do this you could find your messages rejected and have to resend. For example:

    Bad SUBJECT: wind
Good SUBJECT: 123mph Winds In Eastern TX Today

  • Don't post NWS Information unless it is short and sweet, or you are specifically highlighting it with your own interpretation. Most WeatherMatrix Members have access to the web and can see all NWS information at http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/. NWS information, while useful, is often very long and as long as it is still appearing on their website there is no reason to also send it in the email list. Even if the information is no longer present on NWS's site, consider searching for it on the WeatherMatrix Text Archive at http://www.weathermatrix.net/archive/ or uploading it to your own website or WeatherMatrix's website, so that all you have to send is a URL.
  • Don't post Complete News Articlesunless you are specifically highlighting it with your own interpretation. Most WeatherMatrix Members have access to the web and can see all news sites on the Web. If the story is going to remain there for more than 24 hours, just send the URL. Don't use the "Send Page" from your Netscape - this will send the entire article and attach all binary images (which are not allowed on the lists, see below). http://www.weathermatrix.net/archive/ If the story is long and is no longer available on the web, consider uploading it to your own website or ask me about posting it to WeatherMatrix's website, so that all you have to send is a URL.
  • Binaries (images) are NOT allowed.Due to bandwidth restrictions and complaints from list recipients, some of which are on slow modems, binary (image) files are not allowed on the StormReports list. If you have an image you will need to upload it to your own website or ask me about posting it to WeatherMatrix's website, so that all you have to send is a URL.
  • Don't post "me too" messages. These types of messages are not efficient because of our restrictions. If you agree with the topic at hand please provide some additional information on why if you still feel you need to post.
  • If your email address changes, please unsubscribe then resubscribe yourself using the URL below, I can no longer handle address changes.
