Lightning detection at WeatherMatrix HQ in State College, PA, is made up of four lightning detectors: A StormWise dectector integrated into a Texas Weather Instruments Electronic Weather Station, a Boltek PC Card Lightning Detector (installation photo), a handheld SkyScan lightning detector, and a Boltek LD-250 Lightning Detector connected to the national Boltek Lightning Detection Network (this page is now gone but used to give more information about the BLDN.

Welcome to the WeatherMatrix HQ Lightning Data section. From this page you can access local lightning statistics and imagery from WeatherMatrix HeadQuarters in State College, Central Pennsylvania. Our Boltek detectors cover much of the East Coast (see our Accuracy page). Below you can access data from the two detectors which are online.

In January 2005, we reinstalled Lightning/2000 on a new computer which allows for larger screens with more information.

In February 2005, we installed a new vector map with more detail covering a larger area. Click here for a comparison of the old to new map screen.

You can crossreference these screens with official delayed data from USPLN or Vaisala.

THIS LIGHTNING STATION WILL GO OFFLINE DURING LATE APRIL 2006 AND WILL NOT RETURN. AFTER BROADCASTING FOR 9 YEARS AT THIS LOCATION, JESSE IS RELOCATING TO A NEW HOUSE. IT MAY OR MAY NOT START RETRANSMITTING IN LATE SPRING 2006.

THIS EQUIPMENT MAY BE AUCTIONED OFF -- CHECK BACK TO THIS PAGE IN MAY 2006
