Synopsis:
Dark Skies is a weekly show on the NBC Network. The basic plot is set in the 1960's and includes a government employee, John Loengard, and his girlfriend Kimberly Sayers. John's quest for the truth leads him to Majestic-12, a secret government operation (above all offices and law) dealing with extraterrestrials. At first the show seems to be just another show including Government spies and greyliens, but look closer and you will fall much deeper. The plot thickens. The Greys, it seems, are only hosts for the real alien, the Hive. Hive are much more dangerous than was previously imaginable with the Greys. This horrible truth is to be kept from the American people by Captain Bach, the leader of Majestic-12. The two main characters are on the run from the alien Hive and from the Government, and their travels lead them all over the country as they learn more and learn to fear more.
Merits:
What makes this show appealing? Many factors. One is the originality. With about a million shows about the paranormal popping up this year across the networks, this was the only one which chose to approach it from a different chronological perspective -- the 1960's. Another is that it harbors an extensive "shock factor" without resorting to blood and gore. See, the events that you mistook for History were actually all part of the plan. The Assassination of Kennedy was performed when Loengard threatened Majestic-12 by attempting to warn the President of the inherit alien danger. The Roswell "incident" of 1947? The ship didn't crash down. It was downed by our government in an attempt to quiet what could have caused international uproar. The first manned missions to the moon? They weren't going to the moon, they were investigating alien ships in the sky. The first Beatles concert was used to transmit subliminal information to rid those subjected to Majestic-12's experiments of the alien life forms which had overtaken their bodies. I admit that it sounds hokey, and it never ceases to amaze how the writers and producers of this fine show pull it off with such believeability and honesty. Although you could still try to get on the DS train, this was a series best watched from Episode one without any prior knowledge. (Now you know too much; Majestic-12 will have to eliminate you).
