Subject: TRENTON MO - TOP FIVE OF THE CENTURY Date: 18 Dec 1999 16:35:05 -0000 From: "Glen Briggs (wx)" Well, since everyone else is doing there top five of the century i will present you with mine. #1 - DECEMBER 6TH 1994 over 2" of freezing rain fell on northern missouri from the early afternoon of the 6th till predawn the 7th. combined with winds gusting over 45mph downed trees and power lines all over the area. by the time it was all done with nearly 100,000 people lost power over northern missouri and southern iowa. and many were without power for upwards of 10 to 15 days. the system did over 1.3BILLION in damage. #2 - JUNE 21ST 1989 on the evening of June 21st 1989, a thunderstorm developed just west of trenton and moved over the city. with this storm were winds estimated to be over 90mph. at one point 80% of the city was without power. Winds ripped the roof off of C.F. Russell staduim, and caused damage to a wall at muff's warehouse in downtown trenton. it took power crews nearly 4 days to restore power to everyone. #3 - JULY 1993 the utter mention of the year 1993 brings back terror to the hearts of those who lost everything in the great floods. july of 1993 will go down on record at trenton for being the wettest month ever, with 21.36" of rain for the month, near 200% above normal. this only added to the already massive flooding that the area was reciveing. all told the area recived over 60" of rain for the year. which is over 30" above normal. #4 - JULY 4th 1995 residents of moberly will rember this day. a tornado swept through the city, doing 23million dollars in damage. damageing several binusses and homes. it passed over KRES radio in moberly, who remained on the air throughout most of the event. only minor injuries where reported. most credit went to the fact it was a holiday, so no one was downtown. in trenton, severe thunderstorms dampened holiday moods, with winds gusting to over 60mph. anthor torando destoryed the famous little red school near linnues, missouri. #5 - TRENTON TORNADO 1982 i'm sorry i don't have the exact date on this twister. this twister touched down in the lake area. and destroyed 4 homes. offically from the SPC, 1 death was reported.
