Hidi-ho good neighbors greetings from Smithsburg, MD the high desert of the
Mid Atlantic. September came and went with hardly a drop of rain. That is on
top of an already dry year. Needless to say it is dry around here. My records
extend back to the 1970's but there were more impressive records set at places
like Reagan National Airport, DCA (records back to 1884) and old man Greg
Keefer at Hagerstown, MD 1 E (records back to the 1890's). Here are a quick recap
of the records set at all three locations.

Smithsburg, MD 2 NE
It was the driest September on record.
Bottom Five September Rainfall Totals
1. 0.16 - 2005
2. 0.64 - 1986
3. 1.15 - 1978
4. 1.19 - 1998
5. 1.34 - 1984

It was the second warmest September on record.
Top Five September Mean Temperatures
1. 72.7 - 1998
2. 71.0 - 2005
3. 70.6 - 1980
4. 70.0 - 1977
5. 69.6 - 1978

It was also the driest month overall on record.
Bottom Five Monthly Precipitation Totals
1. 0.16 - September 2005
2. 0.22 - April 1985
3. 0.24 - February 2002
4. 0.38 - January 1981
5. 0.54 - February 1978

It was the driest September on record.
