Hi Folks,
WeatherMatrix Founder Jesse Ferrell here. I am letting you know that this
list, the WeatherMatrix StormReports list, will be discontinued this
week. You do not need to unsubscribe because the list will be closed
completely.
It will be replaced mainly by two things:
1. The WeatherMatrix Forums, which allow any user* to post their reports on
our website. There are two forums on our site which will take the
worldwide severe weather reports that we used to send to the StormReports
list. They are "U.S. Current Weather" and "International Current
Weather". Please file any future reports on these forums and they will
automatically be read by thousands of website visitors.

*Any user can post to the Forums if they have registered with our Forum
system, note that your WeatherMatrix login information is NOT the
same. Click on "Register" on the Forum Index to register.
2. My Blog. I have recently started writing my own blog, which allows me
to easily post images and links along with the worldwide severe and extreme
weather reports that I send out.

For a long time I hesitated to discontinue this email list because I didn't
feel there would be a good way for people to keep up with the threads, if
they weren't getting them via email. Now RSS has fixed that. There is an
RSS feed available for both of the above, so that you can keep up with the
latest posts via an RSS reader, for example Google Desktop (which I have
recently started using and really enjoy) or another RSS Reader.
Click on the orange RSS button on the URLs above to see the locations of
the feeds.

I feel this is the end of an era. The StormReports list served us well
over the years, delivering over 11,000 notices of severe or extreme
worldwide weather, to over 2,000 members and to millions of viewers on our
website, over a period of 8 years. Some history:
The StormReports reports were originally included in our "CASILIST" general
email list when we were known as CASI (Central Atlantic Storm
Investigators) back in 1997. This was one of the first weather reporting
email lists. The first message to that group is shown below:

The StormReports reports were broken off from our main email list sometime
later, due to the amount of email traffic. That was probably in 1998 or
1999. This was called the "CASI-SR" list and was hosted by the
WeatherMatrix server. The CASI-SR list launched on YahooGroups (then known
as EGroups) in June 2000 and you can see every message delivered since then
on the Yahoo site:
