As of late Monday morning, EDT, Tropical Depression 10 is spinning
over the eastern North Pacific Ocean. The depression has top sustained
winds of 35 mph about a center which is 695 miles to the southwest of
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; it is moving west-northwestward at 12 mph. The
cyclone is forecast to soon become a tropical storm, but its forecast
path is over wide open seas for the next three days.
A fierce wind storm raged at the Mawson base on the shores of East
Antarctica Saturday to Monday. Sustained winds blowing 55-85 mph
whipped this Australian outpost.
Sunday, summery warmth spread northward into Canada over Ontario
and southwestern Quebec. Indeed, it was even hot in parts of Ontario
where both Kapuskasing and Armstrong soared to 91 degrees. Timmins
peaked at 90 degrees. On the southern shores of James Bay, Moosonee
rose to 88 degrees. Each of these readings was about 30 degrees above
average for this part of September.
In northwestern India, 4.7 inches of rain poured down upon Hissar
within less than six hours Monday.
Rare snowflakes were seen Monday morning in Tarija, southern
Bolivia. It was abnormally cold, too. The early morning low was 31
degrees whereas the average daily low during September is 53; the mean
daily high is 82. Just 36 hours before the light snow was observed,
the temperature was 91 degrees Saturday afternoon.
