        World Weather Summary
Updated: September 7, 2005 11:17 a.m.
As of late Wednesday morning, EDT, Tropical Storm Khanun is plying
the Philippine Sea. Centered 845 miles east of Manila, Philippines,
the storm has top sustained winds of 65 mph; it is moving
north-northwestward at 9 mph. Khanun is forecast to strengthen on a
northwestward path that would keep it over open water through Friday;
it will probably become a typhoon late Wednesday or Wednesday night.
Ultimately, Taiwan could be affected by this cyclone.

Monday was exceptionally warm for early September in a narrow
corridor over eastern Ontario, Canada. On the southern shores of James
Bay, for instance, Moosonee soared to 87 degrees whereas the average
high for the date was 61. To the south, the 85-degree high in Timmins
was a full 20 degrees above average.

Showers and thundery downpours Tuesday to Wednesday dropped 2.8
inches of rain within 24 hours at Nice, France. This was 0.4 of an
inch more than September's average rainfall.

Recent days have been quite rainy in a small part of northern
Iran. Northerly and northwesterly winds blowing from the Caspian Sea
instigated locally heavy rain on its coast and at the foot of the
Elburz Mountains. From early Sunday to Wednesday afternoon, local
time, rainfall was 4.4 inches at Anzali. Noshahr gathered in about 2.8
inches of rain during the same time.

A withering heat wave has lately baked some segments of coastline
in Morocco. In Agadir, for example, consecutive highs were 113, 110,
105 and 105 degrees Saturday through Tuesday. Typically moderated by
breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, Agadir has an average daily high in
the lower 80s in early September.
