As of Monday midday, Typhoon Nabi was just south of the island
of Kyushu in southwestern Japan packing winds of 100 mph with gusts
reaching 120 mph. The direction of movement is to the
north-northwest at 8 mph. Nabi roared just east of the the
northeastern portion of the Ryuku Islands Sunday night lashing
Naze on the northeastern Island of Amami with sustained winds of
over 60 mph and gusts to near 90 mph. Rainfall at Naze was around
7.00 inches in the past 48 hours. Earlier, Nabi passed just east of

across southern Kyushu and southern Shikoku as well as the offshore
islands of Tanega and Yaku. Winds have already reached 50-60 mph in
this same area. By the time Nabi moves away from Kyushu and western
Honshu, rainfall in some areas may be as high as 15.00-20.00 inches.
A few locations along the southeast facing coastlines of Honshu and
Shikoku may have up 30.00 inches of rain triggering mudslides and
serious flooding.
Heat surged north across France into southern England Sunday
ahead of a cold front. The high was 90 in Paris, where typically
highs are only in the low 70s. London has a normal high of 67, but
the high reached 85 Sunday.
