Powerful Typhoon Talim is crossing the Philippine Sea. As of late
Tuesday morning, EDT, Talim wields highest sustained winds of 145 mph
about an eye which is 285 miles south-southwest of Naha, Okinawa,
Japan, and 395 miles east-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan. The typhoon is
moving westward at 13 mph. Talim is forecast to remain very strong up
until a landfall in northern Taiwan Wednesday afternoon or evening;
the storm threatens to deliver a devastating blow to northern parts of
the island.
Nabi is a rapidly growing typhoon over the western North Pacific
Ocean near the Northern Mariana Islands. Late Tuesday morning, EDT,
Typhoon Nabi has highest sustained winds of 75 mph about a center
which is 195 miles east-northeast of Agana, Guam; it is moving towards
the west at 14 mph. Forecasts call for Nabi to become a powerful
typhoon as it makes its way to the Philippine Sea during the next 2-3
days. On this projected course, the cyclone would cross the Marianas
late Tuesday and Tuesday night with its core passing close to Saipan.
Heavy rain, punctuated by thundery downpours, pelted parts of far
eastern China Monday to Tuesday. In Jiangsu province, rainfall was 7.4
inches within 24 hours at Sheyang.
Monday was abnormally hot in western Canada from southern
Saskatchewan to far southeastern Alberta. In Alberta, Onefour soared
to 99 degrees and Medicine Hat spiked to 96. Saskatchewan had top
readings of 96 degrees in Val Marie, 95 degrees in Leader and 94 at
Kindersley. These marks were 20-25 degrees above average for late
August.
Soaking thunderstorms continued to douse some stretches of
coastline in central Vietnam Tuesday. Twenty-four hour rainfall ended
late in the day, local time, was about 5.8 inches in both Vinh and
Dong Hoi.
