        World Weather Summary
Updated: August 22, 2005 11:07 a.m.
Mawar is a strong typhoon over the northeastern Philippine Sea.
Late Monday morning, EDT, Typhoon Mawar has highest sustained winds of
125 mph about an eye which is 175 miles west-southwest of Iwo Jima,
Volcano Islands, Japan; it is moving northwestward at 5 mph. Mawar is
forecast to remain a powerful storm during the next 2-3 days as it
makes its way towards the north-northwest. By Wednesday night or early
Thursday, the storm's core will probably make landfall in southern
mainland Japan.

Tropical Storm Guchol is also spinning over the western North
Pacific Ocean. As of late Monday morning, EDT, Guchol wields top
sustained winds of 65 mph. Centered 480 miles to the northeast of Iwo
Jima, the storm is moving north-northwestward at 15 mph. Guchol is
forecast to slowly weaken and to take on a northeastward bearing that
would keep it over open seas for at least the next 2-3 days.

Hurricane Hilary is churning the waters of the eastern North
Pacific Ocean. As of late Monday morning, EDT, Hilary holds top
sustained winds of 105 mph about a center which is 330 miles to the
south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and 75 miles west of Isla
Socorro, one of Mexico's Revillagigedo Islands; the storm is moving
west-northwestward at 17 mph. Hilary is forecast to maintain its
heading towards the west-northwest during the next 2-3 days. The storm
will change little in strength through Monday night, then it will
likely begin a weakening trend. Hilary's projected path will largely
be over open seas, although the Revillagigedo Islands will continue to
be lashed by strong winds and heavy rain into Tuesday.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms hit portions of west-central
Thailand from Sunday to Monday. At Suphan Buri, rainfall was 5.3
inches, or 85 percent of the monthly mean, within 30 hours.

In northern India, 5.1 inches of rain poured down on Allahabad
within 24 hours as of midafternoon Monday, local time.

Forty-eight hour rainfall as of Monday morning, local time, was
5.8 inches at Bengkulu on Indonesia's island of Sumatra.

Blanc Sablon, Quebec, Canada, was soaked by 3.5 inches of rain
within 30 hours ended Monday morning.
