Tuesday was unusually cool for August in the foothills and high
prairies leading to the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada. The
provincial capital, Edmonton, registered a high of 50 degrees while
its largest city, Calgary, could only muster 53. Both of these marks
were a full 20 degrees below average.
On-and-off downpours left a total of 8.3 inches of rain upon
Puerto Lempira, northeastern Honduras, within 60 hours as of Wednesday
morning.
A big and very slow-moving storm affected central and southeastern
Europe from the weekend through Wednesday. One especially rainy spot
was Feuerkogel Mountain, Austria, where rainfall was 7.4 inches, or 90
percent of the monthly mean. In Romania, 3.6 inches of rain fell
within less than 30 hours as of early Wednesday afternoon, local time,
at Rosiori de Vede.
Forty-eight hour rainfall ended Wednesday morning, local time, was
6.1 inches at Jabalpur, India.
Strong winds whipped portions of New Zealand's North Island
Tuesday to Tuesday night, local time. In the southeast, sustained
winds blowing 50-60 mph lashed Castlepoint for more than twelve hours.
