        World Weather Summary
Updated: July 26, 2005 11:03 a.m.
As of late Tuesday morning, EDT, Tropical Storm Banyan is lashing
parts of eastern and northern Japan with heavy rain and strong, gusty
winds. Banyan holds highest sustained winds of 40 mph about a center
which is over water 95 miles east of Tokyo; it is moving northeastward
at 25 mph. Banyan is forecast to scoot quickly northeastward and to
become an extra-tropical cyclone during the next 24 hours;
northeastern parts of Japan will continue to have stormy weather.

Heavy rain linked directly to Banyan soaked southern Honshu,
Japan, Sunday night to late Tuesday, local time. Owase was doused by
5.9 inches of rain while Oshima was drenched by 5.8 inches. Omae Zaki
gathered in 5.3 inches of rain.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada's largest city, soared to 94 degrees on
Monday. This mark was almost 15 degrees above average and just one
degree short of the record high for the date.

Forty-eight hour rainfall ended Tuesday morning was 6.5 inches at
Ciudad Victoria in northeastern Mexico. Much of this rainfall stemmed
from Tropical Storm Gert which made landfall to the southeast early
Monday morning.

Monday and Tuesday saw fiery heat in Tarabulus, or Tripoli,
Libya's capital. Monday's high was 112 degrees and Tuesday soared to
at least 113. For perspective, the average daily high during July is
95 degrees.

Seventy-two hour rainfall ended Tuesday morning, local time, was
11.8 inches in Ratnagiri, India.

Heavy rain hit Indonesia's Mount Lorentz National Park on the
island of New Guinea early this week. At Timika, rainfall was 10.7
inches within 48 hours as of Tuesday morning, local time.
