As of early Sunday, Tropical Storm Banyan continues to slowly
strengthen over the northern portion of the Philippine Sea.
Banyan has sustained winds near 65 mph as sustained winds
should increase to typhoon force later on Sunday or Sunday
night. Banyan will drift to the north-northwest over the next
several days and has a chance of making landfall in
east-central coastal Japan on Wednesday night or Thursday
morning. Banyan winds are expected to increase to about 115 mph
by Tuesday with some weakening as the storm moves closer to
Japan on Wednesday.
Many parts of India have already endured some very heavy rains
so far this weekend. Places such as Jabalpur has received
1.81 inches as rain totals climbed higher in places as Masulipatnam
6.54 inches, Ratnagiri 9.60 inches and Goa 12.68 inches.
Very heavy rainfall continues to plague eastern Thailand has
rainfall amounts have totaled nearly a foot of rain in places
such as Nakhon Phanom over the past several days.
