As of early Saturday, Tropical Storm Nalgae (06W) was located near
32.7 north and 159.6 east. Movement is to the northeast at 5 mph.
Sustained winds are currently 40 mph. Nalgae will continue to move
northeastward over the next 48 hours and continue to weaken.
As of early Saturday, Tropical Storm Banyan (07W) was located near
19.9 north and 136.8 east. Banyan was moving north-northwestward at 10
mph. Maximum sustained winds were 50 mph. Banyan will continue to move
in a general northward direction and strengthen into a typhoon. Banyan
will move close to Japan before turning northeastward.
Parts of Morocco dealt with unusually hot weather this midweek. At
Agadir, which is often moderated by breezes from the Atlantic Ocean,
consecutive highs Tuesday through Thursday were 107, 118 and 114
degrees. Friday saw some relief from the heat when the afternoon
temperature only climbed to 99 degrees. But for perspective, the mean
daily high during July is 85 degrees, so these marks were 22 to 33
degrees above average.
Portions of western India were pelted by heavy rain the second
half of this week. Along the Arabian Sea coast, rainfall was 8.5
inches from Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon, local time, at
Ratnagiri.
In eastern Thailand, 72-hour rainfall ended late Friday, local
time, was 7.3 inches at Nakhon Phanom.
