        World Weather Summary
Updated: July 22, 2005 11:12 a.m.
Late Friday morning, EDT, Tropical Storm Nalgae is over the
western North Pacific Ocean about 930 miles north-northwest of Wake
Island. With highest sustained winds of 45 mph, Nalgae is moving
northeastward at 8 mph. Nalgae is forecast to slowly weaken during the
next 48 hours on an open-water heading towards the northeast.

Tropical Storm Banyan is plying the eastern Philippine Sea. As of
late Friday morning, EDT, Banyan is centered about 530 miles
south-southwest of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, Japan, where it holds
top sustained winds near 40 mph; it is moving north-northeastward at
10 mph. The cyclone is forecast to strengthen steadily and
meaningfully during the next 2-3 days while moving generally
northward. On this course, Banyan could threaten the Volcano Islands
Sunday to Monday as a typhoon, although its core is projected to pass
to their west.

Severe thunderstorms ripped parts of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula
Thursday. In the city of Merida, gusty thunderstorms struck about 50
minutes apart late in the afternoon. Wind gusts with the first severe
thunderstorm surpassed 70 mph. The second thunderstorm unleashed gusts
to 50 mph.

Parts of Morocco dealt with unusually hot weather this midweek. At
Agadir, which is often moderated by breezes from the Atlantic Ocean,
consecutive highs Tuesday through Thursday were 107, 118 and 114
degrees. For perspective, the mean daily high during July is 85
degrees, so these marks were 22 to 33 degrees above average.

Rainfall linked to Hurricane Emily and her remnants was about 9.4
inches in Monterrey, Mexico, from late Tuesday to late Thursday.

Portions of western India were pelted by heavy rain the second
half of this week. Along the Arabian Sea coast, rainfall was 8.5
inches from Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon, local time, at
Ratnagiri.

In eastern Thailand, 72-hour rainfall ended late Friday, local
time, was 7.3 inches at Nakhon Phanom.
