        World Weather Summary
Updated: July 16, 2005 9:27 a.m.
As of early Saturday, Typhoon Haitang was located near 20.4
degrees north and 129.1 degrees east. Winds were sustained around 155
mph and movement was to the northwest at 16 mph. Haitang is expected
to continue moving toward the northwest, bringing the center of
Haitang over northern portions of Taipei by Sunday afternoon. Haitang
some further strengthening is possible, though Haitang should weaken
some before making landfall over Taipei and eventually China.

In westernmost Canada, British Columbia's Queen Charlotte Islands
were hit by very heavy rain from Wednesday night into Friday. At
Kindakun Point, rainfall was 5.8 inches within about 40 hours.

Friday, strong winds whipped some sections of coast in East
Antarctica. At Australia's Mawson base, for example, sustained winds
blew 65-75 mph for more than twelve hours. At Davis, another
Australian outpost, sustained winds rose to 65 mph.

Many parts of Bangladesh have been hit by downpours in recent
days. One site in the far north, Rangpur, was doused by 9.7 inches of
rain within 72 hours ended midday Friday, local time.
