        World Weather Summary
Updated: June 30, 2005 10:06 a.m.
Heavy, monsoonal rain has swamped western India's state of Gujarat
this week. In Surat, for example, rainfall from Monday morning to late
Thursday, local time, was 19.4 inches. During the same period, 9.2
inches of rain poured down upon Rajkot.

Unusually heavy rain hit parts of eastern Australia this midweek.
In New South Wales, 6.8 inches of rain soaked Coffs Harbour within 60
hours as of Thursday evening, local time, whereas the mean rainfall
during all of June is 4.8 inches. Brisbane, southeastern Queensland,
gathered in 3.9 inches of rain during the same time; the monthly
average here is 2.6 inches.

Fierce winds battered the Antarctic Peninsula and nearby islands
Wednesday to Wednesday night. Sustained winds blew 60-70 mph at
China's Great Wall base and at the Chilean outposts of General
Bernardo O'Higgins and Presidente Eduardo Frei. Amidst blinding
whiteouts of blowing snow, the temperature fell below zero at all three
locations.

In Canada, downpours pelted southern Manitoba as well as parts of
Nova Scotia Wednesday to early Thursday. At Pilot Mound, Manitoba,
rainfall was about 3.4 inches within 30 hours as of Thursday morning.
Far to east in Nova Scotia, 3.5 inches of rain fell during roughly the
same period at Western Head.

Heavy rain linked to Tropical Storm Bret soaked parts of eastern
Mexico's state of Veracruz Tuesday to Wednesday. Near the storm's
landfall, rainfall was 7.6 inches at Tuxpan.
