Heavy rain linked to Tropical Storm Bret soaked parts of eastern
Mexico's state of Veracruz Tuesday to Wednesday. At Tuxpan, rainfall
was 5.3 inches within about 33 hours as of Wednesday morning.

High heat burned parts of eastern Canada from southeastern Ontario
to southern Quebec again on Tuesday. Toronto, Ontario, established a
new record high for the date with a 94-degree maximum. In Quebec, both
Gaspe and Bagotville spiked to 96 degrees while La Tuque peaked at 95.
Montreal's 91-degree high was 15 degrees above average and just one
degree short of the record high for the date.

Western Europe from France to southwestern Germany, parts of
Switzerland and portions of Italy also suffered through unusually hot
weather on Tuesday. In France, hot spots included Lyon, Marseille,
Montelimar and Bourges, each of which peaked at 96 degrees, or 15-25
degrees above average. Paris' 91-degree high was well above the
average high for the date of 74. In Italy, Marina di Ginosa soared to
99 degrees for a second straight day while both Milano and Piacenza
rose to 98.

Heavy, monsoonal rain swamped sections of western India's state of
Gujarat the first half of the week. In Surat, for example, rainfall
from Monday morning to late Wednesday, local time, was 10.8 inches.
During the same period, 9.1 inches of rain poured down upon Rajkot.
