Updated: June 26, 2005 12:11 a.m.
The severe flooding season in southern China continues to
create devastating damage and loss of life this month. The
flooding rains and mudslides have already taken over 550 lives
this month alone with several hundred more missing. Scores of
crops have been seriously damaged as well as a series of roads
and rail lines. With China's flood season running from June
through August, more heavy, flooding rains are unfortunately
expected to come.
An intense heat wave has taken hold over parts of Asia over
the past several days. Locations across Pakistan, India and parts
of China have soared passed 110 degrees over the past few days.
Beijing, China reached a high of 108 degrees on Thursday with
parts of southern Pakistan soaring to highs of near 120 degrees.
As of a result of this intense heat wave, nearly 400 people have
lost their lives. Some relief in the form of monsoonal rains may
bring an end to this deadly heat wave next week.
Another 0.67 inches of monsoonal rain fell on Mumbai (Bombay)
late Saturday and early Sunday bringing the weekly total to an
astonishing 13.67 inches.
