Portions of western Europe have been baking under high heat the
last few days. Madrid, Spain has had afternoon temperatures in the
90s since June 15. Madrid's normal high temperature is 80 degrees. In
northern Spain, the town of Bilbao peaked at a sizzling 106 degrees
Saturday, nearly 40 degrees above their normal high of 68 degrees.

Spain was not the only location experiencing high heat in western
Europe. Lisbon, Portugal peaked at 91 degrees Saturday. The normal
high in Lisbon is 75 degrees. Portions of southern and western France
also experienced high heat Saturday. Bordeaux saw an afternoon
temperature of 97 degrees, well above their normal high of 75
degrees.

Thunderstorms rumbled through Belfast, Northern Ireland Saturday
night. Nearly 2 inches of rain fell in a matter of 3 hours. Some
small hail also accompanied the storms.

Monsoonal rains have been falling over portions of India. Along
the southwest coast, Ratnagiri has received nearly 6 inches of rain
fell since Friday. Goa has received nearly 5 inches since Friday
while Mangalore has had nearly 7 inches of rain since Friday.
Meanwhile, monsoonal rains have yet to reach Bombay, where less than
an inch of rain has fallen during June.

Heavy rain near Calgary in Alberta has forced a number of
residents to evacuate their homes after several days of torrential rain.
Since the 17th of June, many areas around the city have received over
3 inches of rain on already saturated ground. In fact, the Calgary
international airport has reported nearly 9 inches of rain this month,
almost 500 percent the normal amount for June.
