Flooding rain swamped parts of Taiwan from late Saturday to late
Tuesday, local time. In the southwest, rainfall was 23.7 inches within
72 hours at T'ainan.
Far southern Brazil's state of Rio Grande do Sul has had more than
its fair share of rain lately. At Sao Luiz Gonzaga, for example, 10.3
inches of rain fell within 72 hours as of Tuesday morning. Passo Fundo
collected about 6.9 inches of rain during the same interval, and
rainfall was 4.8 inches from Sunday morning to Tuesday morning at
Uruguaiana.
Tuesday began frosty cold in much of eastern Argentina's Buenos
Aires province even though the Southern winter won't begin for another
week. Bahia Blanca plunged to 16 degrees and Tandil slipped to 18; the
mean daily low in both sites near the middle of June is 38 degrees.
Also dropping about 20 degrees below average were Azul and Tres
Arroyos, both of which registered a low of 19 degrees.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Arlene brought locally very heavy
rain to southeastern Ontario, Canada, Monday and early Monday night.
Within the Georgian Bay Islands National Park, rainfall was 4.3 inches
within 24 hours at Beausoleil Island.
