Heavy rainfall over parts of northern Vietnam from late Saturday
into early Monday local time left some impressive amounts. Vinh and
Phulien both totalled nearly 3 inches of rain, while Caobang had 6.20
inches. Just over the border in southern China, Lan-Yu received 5.08
inches in a similar time frame.

A heavy complex of thunderstorms rolled across southern Uruguay
Sunday. The capital city of Montevideo was hardest hit with hail,
wind gusts over 60 mph and 4.13 inches of rain falling in about 8
hours time.

Bangkok, Thailand was inundated by heavy rainfall Sunday from a
cluster of strong thunderstorms. The rain lasted just a couple of
hours, but 4.05 inches was recorded.

A tropical depression designated 04W has formed in the western
Pacific. As of early Monday EDT, the depression was located near 9.3N
and 147.3E of about 335 miles southeast of Guam. It is tracking
west-northwest at about 10 mph and now has sustained winds of 30
mph. the atmosphere appears favorable for development and the storm
should become a named tropical storm in the next 12-24 hours. It has
the potential to become a typhoon later this week. It is expected to
stay on a west-northwest path, taking it south of Guam and then north
of Yap later this week.

The monsoon over India usually gets underway in late May or early
June starting first in the southern part of the nation and spreading
slowly northward. It appears that this year's monsoon is getting
underway on schedule. Sri Lanka, just off the southeast tip of India,
has had plentiful rainfall the past few days; Colombo receiving
almost 4 inches in the last 3 days. Trivandrum, located at the
southern tip of India, had 4.37 inches of rain on Sunday.
