        World Weather Summary
Updated: May 27, 2005 8:33 a.m.
The heat wave has finally broken in Russia Thursday. Over the past
few days in Moscow, the heat wave brought temperatures of 78, 85, 88
and 89 from Sunday through Wednesday. The heat was broken Thursday
when the high only reached 70. The average for this time of year is
only 67 degrees. Even as far east as Helsinki, Finland, temperatures
were in the lower 70s early this week where the normal highs are only
in the upper 50s.

Southern China remains dry and this is helping to spread the fires
around much of the area. K'un-Ming, China, has seen only 0.06 inches
of rain so far in May. This compares to 2.92 inches of rain which
typically fall through Thursday. Beginning in April, 0.40 inches of
rain fell, well below the normal of 3.79 inches.

Sylhet, Bangladesh, has seen plenty of rainfall over the past few
days, helping to cause flooding over parts of the country. Over the
past 4 days ending Friday afternoon, local time, more than 7 inches of
rain fell. This heavy rainfall has caused more than 100,000 people to
be evacuated.

Heavy rain returned to the Bay of Plenty Friday. Heavy rains
brought devastating floods earlier in the month. This time, rainfall
amounts were generally at or just under 1 inch, most of which fell in
just a span of 3 hours. Hicks Bay saw 0.52 of an inch of rainfall
from the latest rains.
