A rare snow storm hit portions of Chile Thursday and Friday. The
snow storm hit 600 kilometres, or about 375 miles, south of Santiago
near the Antuco volcano. Dozens of Chilean soldiers were trapped in the
mountains as a result. At least 5 deaths were reported.
All week long, portions of India and Pakistan have baked under
blistering heat. Many areas saw temperatures soar above 100 degrees,
with many areas topping out over 110 degrees. Pad Idan in
southeastern Pakistan has been exceptionally hot. For the last
several days, temperatures have climbed over 115 degrees.
A major drought has gripped the Northern Territory of Australia.
There has been only 1.5 inches of rain since last June. This region
of Australia is on the verge of its driest 12 months on record. Such
dry conditions have not been seen since the early 1960s.
