In addition to the tornadoes of the day before yesterday, high winds and
rain, we were blessed last night with another amazing weather evening in
GI.
A nearly stationary front has offered us a few problems..
Hasting and Grand Island were pounded last night with high winds, hail
the size of hens eggs, and a continuous rain that dropped between 6 and 11
inches on us in just a few hours.
Flooding is rampant here, schools have been closed and highways flooded,
with entire neighborhoods being evacuated in some instances.
Windows and homes smashed, the college in Hastings lost over 90% of its
windows last night to hail. Centura Schools was damaged heavily with window
breakage as well.
Add that to the touchdowns of several tornadoes and 70-80 mph straightline
thunderstorm winds and its been a relatively impressive couple of days
weather wise.
Power was out for 4 hours to an expanse of customers that covered about 30
miles, from what I know so far.
I've been fortunate in not having the high water to be too big of an effect
so far.
Wood River at Alda, which is where I am located, is flooding, and we expect
more heavy rain this afternoon and evening.
Low opportunity for photographs due to cloud cover, and 1/10 of a mile
visibility, in addition to some serious and nearly constant hail , although
I did get some cloud photos, but minimal others ones.. overall an incredible
weather night.
More convection is expected this afternoon in the area, with heavy rain.
Flooding is rampant already so the evening will tell what more damage that
will bring
