Early Wednesday morning, EDT, a tropical wave over the western North Pacific Ocean in the vicinity of the western Caroline Islands was being watched as a candidate to become a tropical depression. The wave was about 400 miles south-southwest of Guam and 375 miles to the east-southeast of Yap Island; it was drifting towards the south-southwest.

In Canada, residents of eastern Ontario and southern Quebec got a taste of summer on Tuesday. At Toronto's Pearson international airport, for example, the 82-degree high was a record for the date; the city's waterfront peaked at 67 degrees. Nearby, Hamilton also set a record in reaching 80 degrees. Although not records, the 82-degree high in Windsor, Ontario, and the 77-degree top reading in Ottawa, Ontario, were about 25 degrees above average. In southern Quebec, Montreal's high was 74 degrees versus the average high of 53.

In far southern Bolivia, thunderstorms Tuesday night unloaded 5.0 inches of rain within less than twelve hours at Yacuiba. This exceeded the average rainfall for all of April which is about 4.5 inches.

A snowstorm which began during the weekend continued into Wednesday over the mountains of southern Germany. At Zugspitze, the country's highest point, liquid equivalent of the snow was 2.7 inches within 78 hours as of early Wednesday afternoon, local time; snow depth stood at 134 inches, or more than eleven feet! Wendelstein, at an elevation of about 6,000 feet above sea level, had a heavy, wet snow which, early on, was mixed with rain; liquid equivalent here was 3.0 inches.

Heavy rain continued to pelt the Fiji Islands of the South Pacific Ocean Wednesday. On the island of Viti Levu, the town of Nausori, which is near the Fijian capital of Suva, had rainfall of 8.2 inches within 60 hours as of the middle of Wednesday night, local time.
