Heavy storms hit Eastern Texas last night.

"Early Thursday evening a quick, but strong thunderstorm swept through the
area bring more hail, lightning and heavy rains. Lightning caused some
significant damage at the First Baptist church in Downtown Austin. A bolt
of lightning hit the church and caused a big crack in the masonry structure
on the top of the bell tower."

"A severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and disabled power in some parts
of Tyler on Thursday. The National Weather Service in Shreveport, La.,
issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Smith County at 8:46 p.m. Thursday
until 9:30 p.m. Doppler radar indicated a line of storms capable of
producing winds in excess of 60 mph, extending from 14 miles north of Arp
to 10 miles east of Whitehouse. The line was moving east at 30 mph. The
storms generated damaging winds, hail and air-to-ground lightning, the
National Weather Service alert said. "
