"MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) An apparent tornado Sunday afternoon damaged some
trees and homes in a rural area near Montgomery, but no injuries were
reported from a storm system packing large hail and lightning that was
expected to linger until early Monday.
The National Weather Service said a tornado was spotted about seven miles
east of Montgomery at 2:51 p.m., southwest of Milstead, moving northeast at
65 mph. NWS meteorologist Darone Jones in Birmingham said the unconfirmed
tornado damaged trees, power lines and some homes in the Deer Creek area
east of Montgomery. He said weather officials would survey the area on
Monday to determine the extent of damage. Jones said more than 5 inches of
rain fell as a series of storms hit the Interstate 85 corridor . A
dispatcher at the Macon County sheriff's office said heavy rains caused
some isolated flooding in Tuskegee."

"A strong line of storms moved through Alabama over the weekend, prompting
a series of thunderstorm and tornado warnings and watches. According to the
National Weather Service, at least one tornado touched down in east
Montgomery County.
Strong winds also did considerable damage in other areas. An equipment
shed, for example, was torn apart near the Barbour County - Pike County
line on Highway 130. There were also reports of downed trees in that area.
Hail as large as baseballs was also reported throughout south and central
Alabama. WSFA 12 viewer Raven Hurst sent in digital photos of the hail from
her home in Covington County."
