Tropical Cyclone Hennie is weakening steadily over the open South
Indian Ocean. Late Saturday EST, Hennie is located 4055 miles
southeast of Mauritius. Hennie is moving towards the south-southeast
at 6 mph with highest sustained winds of 50 mph. Hennie is forecast
to weaken and to dissipate far from any land within the next day or
two.
High winds, some above 50 mph, whipped over west-central
Kazakhstan Friday and Saturday. Snow fell at times, and the wind
swept up loose snow and dust in thick clouds.
Tropical downpours pelted some of the eastern Caroline Islands in
the western North Pacific Ocean Friday to Friday night, local time.
Pohnpei (Ponape), Federated States of Micronesia, was doused by about
4.5 inches of rain within 24 hours.
Rainfall Friday was unusually heavy for the early days of spring
on Thailand's segment of the Malay Peninsula. At Nakhon Si Thammarat,
rainfall was 4.9 inches, and 3.9 inches of rain poured down upon
Narathiwat. For perspective, average rainfall for all of March in
these areas ranges from 2 to 3 inches.
Beijing, China, hit 75 degrees on Friday. This was almost 20
degrees above average, and it was this first time the temperature
reached the 70s here since middle October.
