March 25, 2005 4:10 p.m.

Having earlier skirted the island of Mauritius to the east,
Tropical Cyclone Hennie is now over open waters of the western South
Indian Ocean. Late Friday afternoon, EST, Hennie has highest sustained
winds of about 50 mph ringing a center which is 305 miles southeast of
Mauritius. Hennie is moving towards the east at 9 mph. Hennie is
forecast change little in strength while making for the southeast over
the next two days.

At Vacoas on the main island of Mauritius, three-day rainfall as
of Friday was 10.5 inches. These three days saw the passing of
Cyclone Hennie, whose fringing rains and squalls hit Mauritius.

Weather in March is often as cold as any mid-winter day over the
northernmost islands of Canada. On the island of Ellesmere, Eureka,
as of Friday morning, had three-straight lows below -45 degrees with
corresponding highs of 34 to 38 degrees below zero. What is more, it
was the seventh morning in a row having a low below -40 degrees.
While this stretch was colder than usual, it was not greatly so; as
late as March 18th, the average low at Eureka is 40 degrees below
zero.

Locally excessive rains have washed southeastern Madagascar this
week. In Fort Dauphin, for example, rainfall was 16.2 inches within
four-and-a-half days as of Friday evening, local time.

Tropical downpours pelted some of the eastern Caroline Islands in
the western North Pacific Ocean Friday to Friday night, local time.
Pohnpei (Ponape), Federated States of Micronesia, was doused by about
4.5 inches of rain within 24 hours.

Rainfall Friday was unusually heavy for the early days of spring
on Thailand's segment of the Malay Peninsula. At Nakhon Si Thammarat,
rainfall was 4.9 inches, and 3.9 inches of rain poured down upon
Narathiwat. For perspective, average rainfall for all of March in
these areas ranges from 2 to 3 inches.

Beijing, China, hit 75 degrees on Friday. This was almost 20
degrees above average, and it was this first time the temperature
reached the 70s here since middle October.
