March 24, 2005 4:48 p.m.

Having earlier skirted the island of Mauritius to the east,
Tropical Cyclone Hennie is bound for wide open waters of the western
South Indian Ocean. Late Thursday afternoon, EST, Hennie has highest
sustained winds of 70 mph around a center which is 135 miles to the
southeast of Mauritius; it is moving southward at 7 mph. The storm is
forecast to weaken on a bearing more-or-less towards the south during
the next 48 hours.

Locally excessive rains have washed southeastern Madagascar this
week. In Fort Dauphin, for example, rainfall was 13.7 inches within
three-and-a-half days as of Thursday evening, local time.

In northwestern Russia, Thursday dawned with cold fitting of
middle winter, rather than early spring. Nar'yan Mar dipped to -20
degrees, for example. Other cold spots were Veslyana, Troitsko
Pechorsk and Koynas, each of which set a low of -18 degrees. The lows
in these four locations were 20-30 degrees below average.

A potent storm wielding whole gales and downpours lashed
Portugal's Azores in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean Thursday. Wind
gusts nearing 70 mph ripped Lajes, Pico Island, and Santa Maria
Island. Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel Island, withstood winds blowing
30-60 mph for close to 18 hours as of early Thursday evening, local
time. Rainfall at Ponta Delgada was 1.4 inches.

Thursday began with record cold in greater Edmonton, Alberta,
Canada. At the international airport south of the city, the low was
-20 degrees besting the former record low for the date of -17 which
was set in 1955. Closer to the city's center, the low was -2 degrees
at Edmonton Municipal airport.

Twenty-four hour rainfall ended Thursday morning was 7.7 inches
in far northern Brazil in Soure, a town on the Marajo Bay.
