February 26, 2005 4:22 p.m.

Saturday afternoon, EST, sustained winds of Tropical Cyclone Percy
reached 110 mph. This storm is centered 270 miles northeast north of
Apia, Samoa and moving toward the east-southeast at 12 mph. mph. A
path towards the southeast and even the south is forecast for Percy
over the next two days. Odds seem higher now that the worst of this
powerful cyclone will miss Samoa, including American Samoa, to the
east early next week.

Cold beyond belief has lately been the way of the weather at the
Vostok station atop the ice cap of East Antarctica. For the last three
days through Saturday, winds of 15 to 25 mph and temperatures of 50 to
70 degrees below zero have driven wind chills at times to at least 110
degrees below zero.

Unusually heavy rains pounded western Cuba Friday afternoon.
Within a few hours, rainfall about 6 inches at Pinar del Rio leading
to 7.1 inches for the outburst overall. Average monthly rainfall over
western Cuba is mostly between 1.0 and 2.0 inches.

Early Saturday morning, a blizzard raged to either side of the
Strait of Belle Isle, Canada. The town of Saint Anthony, Newfoundland,
weathered 50-mph gusts and near whiteouts. Barely inside easternmost
Quebec, Blanc Sablon was hammered by winds to 55-60 mph that whipped
up whiteouts.

Friday was unusually mild again in southern Alberta, Canada.
Calgary was nearly 20 degrees above average in reaching 52, and
Lethbridge was fully 20 degrees milder than average with a 55-degree
reading at mid-afternoon. Other mild locations included Cardston with
at least 59 degrees and Mild River at 56.

Unusually heavy rains hit Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Thursday to
Friday. Rainfall was a bit less than 1.5 inches whereas February's
mean rainfall is under 0.4 of an inch. The average annual rainfall
here is about 4.1 inches, so about 35% of this fell within about 30
hours.

Showers and thunderstorms left 2.7 inches of rain on Agadir,
Morocco, Thursday and Friday. This tally is likely higher than
February's average rainfall and may be twice it.

In Mumbai, India, the temperature soared to 102 degrees Saturday
afternoon, surpassing the average high for the date by nearly 20
degrees.
