Winchester (nw( VA
Our deepest & longest duration snow of the season has left a general 4
to 6" snowfall in the Baltimore/ Washington region. Areas south of
Washington east into MD had totals up to 8". Locally snow fell from 1am
Thursday to 1am today, leaving an average of 5.5", with a water content
of .59".
Roads were wet thru midday, but became slushy in the afternoon, & snow
covered after dark. There were a few accidents in the morning, but the
rate sharply increased by mid afternoon. Wrecks continued well into the
evening. Between 4 and 10pm, they seemed to be reported every 5 minutes
in a 40 mile radius of here (I listen to scanners).
Schools were closed in anticipation of snow covered roads Thursday. Most
will be closed again today, as roads will likely be icy in the morning.
I'll send news stories & final accumulations, along with photos in the
coming days.
