February 12, 2005 4:18 p.m.

A powerful storm system churning in the North Sea was producing
gale force winds across the United Kingdom Saturday. Winds gusted to
56 mph at Leeds, England with many other locations throughout England
and Scotland edging above the 50 mph mark. During the day Saturday,
high winds also swept across the Netherlands and into Germany, where
many places had sustained winds to 50 mph along with heavy rain.

The storm system that brought blizzard conditions to the New
England states on Thursday and early Friday struck the coastal
provinces of Canada Friday and early Saturday. Sustained winds of
35-45 mph along with a foot or more or snow pelted eastern Canada from
New Brunswick to northern New Foundland. Goose bay, New Foundland
reported over 13 inches of fresh snow in just 12 hours.

The third straight day of sweltering heat continues in Western
Australia with temperatures soaring well above the 100 mark.
Mundiwindi, and Leinster hit 106 degrees and 109 degrees respectively
on Saturday, marking the third straight day of temperatures greater
than 105 degrees. Little relief is expected for Sunday as high
pressure remains in control.

Heavy rain and snowfall across central and northern Pakistan
Friday and early Saturday, caused a dam to burst in southwest
Pakistan near the town of Pasini on the Indian Ocean Coast. The
Heaviest rain in years lead to this breakage, with the rain falling
across an extensive area. Unfortunately, another storm system over
Iran will drift east Saturday, and more heavy rain is expected
Saturday night and Sunday, continuing to exacerbate the situation.

Torrential rains and resulting floods have killed dozens and made
hundreds homeless in northeastern Colombia and adjacent sections of
Venezuela. Several inches of rain poured down on these areas Friday
into Saturday, sending rivers over their banks and turning hillsides
and mountain slopes into mudslides.

In the past four days, Jakarta, Indonesia, has received about 6.5
inches of rain. A sizeable percentage of that, over 4 inches, came in
just one 12-hour period on Thursday night, local time.
