Date: Mon Jan 17 2005 - 15:16:24 EST

First the big rain and big it was. 1.00-2.00" rainfall totals fell statewide
from Pensacola to Miami on Friday 01/14/05. There was also a large swath of
2.00-4.00" rainfall totals across the central peninsula centered on a line
from Sarasota to Melbourne, due to cell entrainment. The rain event was also
accompanied by high wind gusts and lot's of lightning.

Now to the cold. For approximately two weeks we saw very mild weather. Daily
maximum temperatures ran from the low 70's to low 80's, with minimum's in
the upper 40's to low 60's. At times we running up to 10 deg. above normal.
In any event I predicted a 20 deg. temperature drop with the cold front and
that's what we have gotten.

Early this Monday morning 01/17/05 dawned very cold, with an advection
(windy) freeze across the northern part of the state, extending southward
into the inland rural north central peninsula. The cold spot in the state
this morning was 26 deg. at DeFuniak Springs and Jay in the NW panhandle
region. The cold spot on the central peninsula was 31 deg. at East Nobleton.
The cold spot on the southern peninsula was 39 deg. at Immokalee.

Other notable minimum temperatures across the north include 27 deg. at
Crawfordville and New Hope, with 30 deg. at Fort White and Jasper. On the
central peninsula Brooksville and Holder saw 33 deg. Mount Plymouth 34 deg.
and Plant City 36 deg. My 36 deg. reading was accompanied by a wind chill of
29 deg. and a dewpoint of 27 deg. In the south Clewiston saw 41 deg.

Take Care,
