QUOTES:

"SEATTLE - A rainstorm caused some Western Washington rivers to flood
roads, pastures and parts of some rural communities, but the heaviest rain
fell to the north, where a mudslide wiped out two homes in British Columbia.

The slide followed days of downpours across much of Vancouver Island and
the southwestern part of the British Columbia mainland.

Twenty-four-hour rainfall amounts [in Washington State] as of Tuesday
afternoon included 2.63 inches at Shelton, 2.13 inches at Olympia and 2.53
inches at Forks. Besides causing floods, the rainfall melted much of the
snow in the Cascade Range, closing ski areas at Mount Baker, Stevens Pass
and The Summit at Snoqualmie. Crystal Mountain was limited to two operating
chair lifts.

In the southern part of the state, ice storms resulting from rain falling
through cold air that seeped westward through the Columbia River gorge left
much of Skamania County in the dark Monday and Tuesday. As many as 6,000
houses and businesses were without power at times, Skamania County Public
Utility District officials said."
