Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the wind tunnel of the mid Atlantic. I
seem to have picked a bad spot for my homestead in the hills. Not only has my
wind record of days with 40+ mph wind gust exceed 75 days so far this year
but my three acres seems to be a tornado magnet being struck directly three
times since 1998 and nearly missed three times this year (a funnel spotted 3 miles
north in June, a F-1 that ripped through Litersburg, MD and was seen by my
neighbor from my property 3 miles south, and a tornado that ran through
Frederick County crossed over the mountain and headed into PA which missed me by 1.5
miles). I also have the joy of wind compression when the winds are anywhere
from the NE to the South. Tonight the winds are from the SSE. Here are some
readings of weather stations in the area.
At 10:30 PM
Smithsburg Middle School - (Four Winds Network, 3 miles from me) SSE 4 mph
Waynesboro Middle School - (FWN, 4 miles from me) SSE 5 mph
Smithsburgweather.com - (5 miles from me) SSW 5 mph
Hagerstown (Old Man Keefer) - S 4 mph
And my homestead in the hills - SSE at 26 sustained gusting to 39
It stinks to be at a friends house five miles away and have nearly calm winds
and get home and have to keep your head down the keep debris from flying into
it. I knew I shouldn't have built my homestead out of straw. Until
later.............
