[STORMREPORTS] Florida Snow Again!

CHECK FOR UPDATES ON THIS STORM: VIEW RECENT STORM REPORTS | GET THESE REPORTS IN YOUR EMAIL BOX
From: Thomas Giella KN4LF (kn4lf{at}tampabay.rr.com)
Date: Sun Dec 26 2004 - 10:39:57 EST

For the third day in a row frozen precipitation has fallen across north
Florida. Early this morning Gainesville, Jacksonville, Pensacola and
Tallahassee reported sleet. Snow fell at Apalachicola, Panama City and also
mixed in at Tallahassee.

Also as I forecasted yesterday evening an El Nino stoked up strong
extratropical winter surface low raced across the central peninsula early
this morning. Heavy rainfall of 2.00+" in some areas and thunderstorms
occurred on the south side of the gale and frozen precipitation on the north
side. Along the west coast of Florida a storm surge occurred with gale force
winds reaching 60 mph. At this moment I have not been able to find out just
how high the storm surge was but I would guess 3-4 feet. Some wind damage
was reported including some lost roofs in Pasco County.

Here in Plant City 25 miles east of Tampa I measured 1.59" of rainfall. As
the gale passed just to my north the wind shift from NE-SW and then to NW
with the temperature rising from 46 to 64 deg. then falling back down to 39
deg. with a wind chill temperature of 30 deg. At 5:17 am I had a wind gust
to 45 mph from the NW and a minimum barometric pressure of 29.57". During
the period the barometer fell from 29.97" to 29.57" then back to 30.06" at
10:30 am.

Take Care,
