Here at my home/office our La Crosse weather station temperature at 0800 is 7.5 degrees. It is 7.0 at the Asheville Regional
Airport. This morning's low temperature breaks the record for Asheville, NC set back in 1981 of 9 degrees.
Winds are around 11-13 mph making the wind chill around MINUS 10.
Further north and up on Grandfather Mountain, the current air temperature is MINUS 4.9 with winds sustained at 24 mph. Wind chill is
MINUS 26 or so.
Snowfall rates varied around western NC yesterday. Here at our home/office in Mills River, about 3-4 miles south of the Asheville
Regional Airport, in Henderson county, snowfall was "maybe" 1/2 of an inch.
The big story is the brutal cold, and the frozen roadways. The main roads, I-40 & I-26, for the most part are OK, with some
reported patches of ice. Secondary roads are another story. Most are ice covered and very dangerous.
Authorities are urging if you do not need to get out, DON'T. Sounds like a plan for us.
