Date: Sun Dec 19 2004 - 19:40:03 EST

December 19, 2004 8:35 a.m.

Early Sunday morning, EST, Talas remained a minimal tropical
depression and was continuing to move north at 6 mph. The storm is
currently 700 miles east-northeast of Manila, Philippines. The
depression had winds of 35 mph with gusts to near 45 mph. The storm
will soon begin to take a more northeastward track as it continues to
weaken over the next 24-48 hours, and likely weakens past tropical
depression force.

Tropical Storm Noru meanwhile was near Guam and slowly moving to
the northwest at 7 mph, early Sunday morning, EST. The storm had winds
of 40 mph with gusts to near 50 mph. The storm is expected to be over
Saipan by the end of the day, mainly bringing heavy rainfall along
with some stronger wind gusts. The storm is currently 170 miles east
of Agana, Guam.

Highlands of eastern Turkey shivered in arctic-like cold Thursday
through Sunday. Respective lows at Erzurum were 23, 28, 26 and 23 degrees
below zero, which is nowhere near the average daily low of about 15
degrees above zero. Thursday, the high of 3 or 4 degrees below zero
was about 40 degrees below average; Saturday's high was 2 above zero.

Parts of Australia remained quite mild Sunday. The high in Cape
Leveque reached 106 degrees, above the nearly 100 degree average.
Meanwhile, Argyle Aero saw temperatures reach 106 degrees Sunday,
down from the 108 degrees on Saturday, and still above the normal in
the middle 90s.

Key Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, set a low of 56 degrees below zero
Saturday. The average low for the month of December is 10 degrees
below zero. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the temperature only dropped to -29
degrees on Sunday as the temperature continued to climb through the
night Sunday. Even so, this is well below the normal low of -10
degrees, and as the high only topped out at -12 Saturday, the high is
still more than 20 degrees below normal.
