After a week of gloomy weather, an cold front about dawn Thanksgiving
morning cleared the mess out.
In the previous week, we have had no substantial sunshine. It drizzled
some of the time, and showers fell on a few days. The total rain for the
period was .62", and the month's total is at 2.34".
A strong front arrived about 7am Thursday, preceded by a very unusual
event, a thunderstorm at 6am.
Overnight, temperatures stayed between 55 & 60. The fell sharply thru
the day, reaching the 30s in the evening.
I had a high of 55.7 (12:02am) and a low of 33.1 (10:56pm). Seasonable
temps would be 31 & 51. I had a low wind chill of 11 Thursday evening.
The barometer was very low, falling to between 29.30 & 29.35" in several
AWS stations in my area. The lowest I found was 29.21" at S. Jefferson
ES in Charles Town WV.
Strong winds were a problem Thursday. Peak Wind Gusts (PWGs) were at
least in the 30-39mph range. Although the 3 NWS offices in VA did not
have PNS statements on the PWGs, a special weather statement from
Sterling VA mentioned PWGs nearing 40mph in Orange VA & Frederick MD.
I checked AWS stations in my area and found...
Winchester Regional Airport, 44mph
Capon Bridge (WV) ES, 43mph
Belmont Ridge MS, Leesburg VA, 41mph
My PWG was 39mph, at 12:28mph.
There were scattered power outages in the region. At 11pm Thursday, WRC
tv reported about 1000 customers in the dark in the Washington DC area.
Most were in Montgomery Co MD.
I have not been posting lately as I have been busy with other stuff. I
finished with the leaves Monday. The stragglers left behind are all
downwind now. I will mow the front yard for the last time this season
Saturday.
Some of you know that I am diehard webtv fan, despite it's slow speed &
antiquated browser. In October, Microsoft released MSNtv2. Although this
device is geared to supplement an existing home computer system, it
will eventually replace the original webtv system.
I use accelerated dial up on both boxes, and on MSNtv2, I surf at near
DSL speed. I will eventually migrate my mailing lists & favorites to the
new box. But I will also maintain the current addresses. That is because
the new unit lacks a real CC&P, vidcaps, pagebuilder & even spell check!

Now it's off to bed, as I will join the mall crowd later today. Not to
shop, but to work. It's my 5th Black Friday. If we have enough help, &
things go smoothly, it won't be too bad. It's even worse the 2 weekends
before Christmas! And if you have free time to shop on a weekday while
schools are in session, thats the least crowded time in the stores.
