"HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) One of two operating reactors at the Browns Ferry
nuclear plant near Athens shut down unexpectedly Tuesday morning, possibly
because of a nearby lightning strike.
Craig Beasley, a Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman at Browns Ferry, said
the shutdown of a steam-powered turbine caused the reactor to automatically
shut down at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. Beasley said the event is under
investigation, and a cause has not been determined."
