Muifa has regained typhoon strength over open waters of the South
China Sea heading west from the Philippines. At midday Sunday, EST,
Typhoon Muifa, with sustained winds of 94 mph, was centered 485 miles
west-southwest of Manila, moving toward the west-southwest at 12 mph.
The typhoon is expected to remain on a west-southwesterly track for
the next few days, eventually threatening southern Vietnam.

While crossing the Philippines, Muifa unleashed some torrential
rain. From Friday through Sunday, local time, San Jose had 8.64
inches while just over 5 inches drenched Tayabas. At least five deaths
have been attributed to the storm in the Philippines.

A new tropical cyclone has taken shape over the South Indian
Ocean. At midday Sunday, EST, this unnamed storm was centered near 7.9
degrees south and 79.2 degrees east, or about 465 miles east-southeast
of Diego Garcia. It was moving toward the northeast at 5 mph and had
sustained winds of 66 mph. This storm may eventually reverse its
course, head west and strengthen.

A moisture-laden cold front swept into Turkey on Saturday,
unleashing some heavy rain. Nearly 3 inches of rain drenched Silifke
and Adana while Finike had 2 inches. The rain changed to snow in some
areas as temperatures dipped from the 50s and 60s to the 20s and 30s.
By Sunday morning, local time, two inches of snow covered the ground
at Bolu, Corum, Eskisehir and Afyon.
